The Butter in Butterfly

A Grimoire for a Magical Life

Nettle, the Iron Maid

The Lore: Nettle is famously easy to grow because she looks after herself. Those “stinging” hairs keep hungry animals away so she can grow tall and strong. Beyond her spicy personality, her stalks are secretly full of fibers that are actually tougher and more durable than cotton. She’s basically wearing a suit of invisible armor. With the right ritual, Nettle becomes an herbal electrolyte drink comparable to coconut water.

The Gifts: A reservoir of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, silica, zinc, selenium, Vit K, A, C, and B vitamins (specifically B9). Just be careful as she is known to be a diuretic.

The Magic: Known to strengthen the hair and revive the scalp. Supports the kidneys and clear inflammation from the body.

The Ritual: Steep dried nettle for at least 4 hours (the “Long Soak”) to draw out the minerals.

A Companion for: Those navigating postpartum recovery or trying to rebuild their blood and vitality after a long illness. Those dealing with hair loss, thinning, or brittle nails. Those who are going through a high-stress season or burnout.

The Spell:

A sting for the skin to wake up the heart,

Medicine for when you’re falling apart.

Let the iron go deep and the green take hold,

To turn all your leaden fears into gold.
